Annotations for Ruled by Secrecy

Lyric: [Piano Solo]
Annotation:
The piano suddenly grows as the song climate is taken to a more aggressive approach, probably representing his feelings while taking his work colleagues' lives.

Lyric: Rebuild and suppress
Annotation:
It’s unknown to what concept this line is referring to, but it can probably be associated with “rebuilding” himself by murdering his work colleagues and ending his restraint inside work.

Lyric: Your death creates success
Annotation:
Refers to a person’s death due to amounts of work with no recognition at all, and how much this “devotion” enriches and produces the corporations' CEOs their absolute success.

Lyric: [Chorus]
Annotation:
The chorus, unlike many may say, is about the particular attitude he’s taken. By saying “change in the air”, he means to change the ambient completely (it can be with murder, gunshots, yelling etc) and rip the hierarchy off that scenario for good. Then he proceeds saying that doing that, people will hide everywhere to not die, whatever is their position inside the company. No one knows who’s in control because everyone was reduced to same capacity of being: human beings. In the end, the boss is just like the common worker and they bleed all the same.

Lyric: This time she won’t understand
Annotation:
Although they were never the perfect couple and there was fights, there was forgiveness among them. This time, she may leave him for being afraid or for disapproving his decision to go full mad at work. He’s just fearing that she won’t understand his reasons and she’s the only thing he has left.

Lyric: Wash the blood off your hands
Annotation:
After murdering everyone at work, he comes back home and hesitates to talk to his wife the way he is (blood-covered). His inner voice tells him to wash all that blood off and present to her in a good way, separating her from work and the chaos that just happened. He loves her.

Lyric: Repress and restrain
Annotation:
The character seems to be talking to himself. The use of repression and restraint here refers to the pressure produced in the ambient by the cold-blooded act of violence he’s about to execute. Also, this can be related to giving the repression and restraint he’s feeling with the working routine, but in a practical way.

Lyric: [Verse 1]
Annotation:
This slow piano-based song refers to the grown of insanity amongst the general working population, emphasis to corporations and industries. Matt Bellamy (guitarist & vocalist) puts himself on a character that just murdered his entire department of work and is coming back home to his probable wife covered in blood.

Lyric: [Outro]
Annotation:
In the end, a heart-beat can be heard. It’s very quiet though it is possible to hear it. There is also a Shepard Tone as the song fades out.

Lyric: You’re working so hard
 And you’re never in charge
Annotation:
Refers to the unincreasing influence/power of the general population despite their subscription to the modern narrative of success, suggesting that hard work leads to reward and hierarchical gain. The link between hard work and no results dispels the prior notion.

Lyric: Change in the air
 And they’ll hide everywhere
And no one knows who’s in control
Annotation:
It probably is about Illuminati and it says that somebody must change something about them to make those greater powers escape and hide and at that time they will not be able to control the world. Matt is always against Illuminati and always states it in live shows.
